João Gomes

Born in Lisbon, in 1985. MA in Contemporary Typographic and Editorial Practices, at the Faculties of Fine Arts and Architecture of the University of Lisbon (UL), and BFA in Communication Design, at the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Lisbon (FBAUL). Attends, since 2020, the Doctorate in Design at the Faculty of Architecture of the University of Lisbon (FAUL).

Works in the area of Design, in the fields of Type Design practice and teaching, Modular and Geometric Typography, Grids and Typographic Taxonomy, namely teaching, since 2021, the Curricular Unit Advanced Typography of the MA in Communication Design at FAUL, as scholarship awardee student and under the responsibility of Professor Teresa Olzabal Cabral, also a member of Typo.Graphicæ.

Co-lectured several Digital Type Design workshops as Higher-Education Monitor at FBAUL and as invited Trainer at FAUL. Lectured a Primer on Workflows and Digital Type Design class, for the BFA in Graphic Design at the School of Design of IPCA (Barcelos), and the two-class module on Colour from the Typography and Colour curricular unit, for the All Media Graphic Design course at CSArts (Monte Estoril).

Regularly participates in the Typography Meeting, having presented a paper in the form of communication and seven academic posters at this venue. Co-authored with his supervising team two papers/chapters published in Advances in Intelligent Systems and Computing and one abstract with three other members of Typo.Graphicæ presented at the European Conference on Arts, Design & Education.

Worked in the field of Design for entities such as the Centre for African Studies of ISCTE–IUL, the Rectorate of UL, FBAUL, Teatro Aberto, Inês de Castro Foundation, and AdMédic Publicações Médicas Lda, having experience in graphic design, editorial design, stage design, print production, advertising, digital typesetting, text revision and web design.
